Maple Grove Senior High student Evan Skaja and Park Center Senior High student Heather MacMurdo have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists for their exceptional achievement on the 2014 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test taken during their junior year.

Skaja participates in National Honor Society, Link Crew and football along with taking a total of eight AP classes throughout his high school career. Outside of school, Evan volunteers at Rush Creek Elementary with Reading Seedlings and plays club basketball.

MacMurdo is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme candidate at Park Center. She participates in National Honor Society, marching band, and swimming, and serves as a captain of the cross-country and track teams. Outside of school, Heather volunteers at Second Harvest and through Edinbrook Church. Last summer her volunteer work included a mission trip to Belize.

As semifinalists, they are among the highest scoring entrants in each state, representing less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors. They are among 16,000 semifinalists who will compete for 7,600 scholarships.

Winners will be announced between April and July 2016.
