The Maple Grove Farmers Market is a resource for healthy, active lifestyles at any age. Senior citizens are invited to enjoy an array of special activities and entertainment at the Maple Grove Farmers Market each Thursday in September.

The Maple Grove Farmers Market is 3-7 p.m. each Thursday throughout September in the parking at the Maple Grove Community Center

Senior September events and promotions are made possible by SilverCreek on Main of Maple Grove. On Sept. 24, BZ Girls will provide live music. Seating is limited, so shoppers are invited to bring a lawn chair if they wish to sit to enjoy the performances.

SilverCreek on Main culinary staff members will lead a special chef demonstration on 4-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 with information and market prize drawings.  Throughout the month, shoppers are invited to pick up free “cooking for one or two” recipes at the market info booth, designed especially for those cooking for smaller households.

“We’re so grateful for our loyal senior shoppers,” said Market Manager Kirsten Bansen Weigle. “September is a wonderful month to explore the market, with a huge array of locally grown items available.”

Ongoing at the Market in September is the Power of Produce children’s club. Kids ages 5-12 are invited to sign up for the free club. Upon sign-up, kids receive a shopping bag and a $2 token to purchase fresh produce items at market. Club members are invited back each Thursday through Oct. 1 to receive another $2 token. According to Weigle, the program has logged over 1,300 child shopping trips since it began on July 23.

Medica Healthy Savings card holders can also present their cards at the farmers market each Thursday in September to receive a coupon worth $3 in fresh market produce. Visit the Market Information Trailer for more details.

At the Market Information Trailer, pick up free recipes, purchase a first-of-its-kind farmers market coupon book, and enroll in a customer loyalty program. All farmers market vendors accept cash; some accept credit cards. Out of cash? Swipe Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and EBT cards at the Market Information Trailer to purchase market tokens, accepted throughout the market. Famers Market Nutrition Program and WIC Fruit and Vegetable Vouchers also accepted.
