Osseo Preparations for Prep Bowl Complete

Nov 12, 2015 09:32PM ● By Doug Erlien
When it comes to high school sports and the post season, there is a finality that comes with losing. One day you are practicing, looking forward, the next you are turning in equipment and wanting just one more moment with your team.

There is one exception.

On that occasion, you have the opportunity to play for a championship.

The Osseo Senior High Schoolfootball team practiced for the final time in 2015 under the dome at Maple Grove Senior High. The practice was crisp, the tempo upbeat. Not at all surprising for a program that has worked and willed its way to their first Prep Bowl in 29 years.

“You’ve cemented yourselves in the history of Osseo, there’s no doubt,” said Head Coach Derrin Lamker. “But what you can do for yourselves and your family tomorrow could be truly historic.”

The team has energized not only the school, which pulls students from multiple communities, but has also captured the imagination of the city of Osseo. Playing for the big school championship has been reserved for the Eden Prairies, the Wayzatas and the Minnetonkas of the metro. Those three programs have won 11 of the last 14 big school championships. What the Orioles have done is proved that when it comes to the conversation of championships, they have a seat at the table.

“I’m excited to watch these kids and show the state of Minnesota it doesn’t matter where you are in the state, you have a shot,” Lamker told his team after their final practice.

7 p.m. Friday Nov. 13 at TCF Bank Stadium, the Orioles will have theirs.
