After 18 years, a new city administrator will be leading Maple Grove.

Current Maple Grove City Administrator Alan Madsen announced his retirement earlier this year, which will be effective Nov. 30. The new city administrator, Heidi Nelson, will assume her new role effective Dec. 21.

Nelson was appointed the new Maple Grove city administrator at the Nov. 2 Maple Grove City Council meeting.  Since 2012, she has been serving as the city manager for the city of Wayzata and has had a career in municipal government in cities throughout the Twin Cities since 1999.

“We welcome Heidi to the city of Maple Grove and looking forward to her joining our professional management team,” staff wrote in the Nov. 2 request for council action.

Nelson’s appointment was approved by all council members at the Nov. 2 meeting.

She is anticipated to be at the 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 Maple Grove City Council meeting for formal introduction to the city council.

The Maple Grove City Council is scheduled to appoint interim acting city administrators during their Nov. 16 meeting (Maple Grove Finance Director Jim Knutson Dec. 1-8; Public Works Director/City Engineer Ken Ashfeld Dec. 9-20).
