By mid-December each year, a variety of winter activities are usually in full swing at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove.

This year, Mother Nature has decided to put a bit of a damper on those plans.

After several days of rain and temperatures hovering between 30-40 degrees, Elm Creek Park Reserve plans to temporarily close the terrain park and cross-country ski trails.

On Tuesday, Dec. 14, Three Rivers Park Reserve posted on the Elm Creek Park Reserve webpage:

Winter Conditions Update:

1.2K of the Valley Trail (snowmaking loop) is now open. Half of the terrain park is open with one rope tow operating. The Terrain Park will close Dec. 15 and the Valley Trail will be closed Dec. 17 and Dec. 18. Terrain Park and cross-country ski trails will re-open Saturday morning, Dec. 19.

The tubing hill remains closed; check back for an opening date.

"We plan to be blowing lots of snow late this week. Hope for colder temps coming this way,"  according to the Elm Creek Park Reserve Facebook page.

Colder weather could be on its way, according to the National Weather Service-Twin Cities forecast. Starting the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 16, temperatures are forecast to dip to a low 20 degrees with a 20 percent chance of snow into Thursday, Dec. 17.

Cross-country skiing trails remain closed at Eagle Lake Regional Park, according to Three Rivers Park District, in addition to other trails throughout Twin Cities.
