Maple Grove Boys Mash Spuds

The Maple Grove Senior High School Crimson boys basketball team played suffocating defense and picked up a strong shooting game from Jack Hutchinson in their 67-31 win over the Moorhead Spuds on Friday, Jan. 8.

“That’s something we hang our hat on,” Crimson Head Coach Nick Schroeder said.. “We want to be the best defensive team in the state. Last night I thought we didn’t play real well defensively, so we talked about what we needed to do differently and it was just a mindset, a focus. We had that tonight and it showed on the floor.”

While the Crimson allowed only 15 points in the first half, junior guard Jack Hutchinson was hot early from deep. Hutchinson made five three-point field goals in the first half and finished with 20 points to lead all scorers.

Junior Brad Davison just missed a triple-double finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists in the win.

The Crimson are now 11-1 on the season and face Armstrong, Osseo and Milwaukee Riverside in the La Crosse on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Maple Grove's leading scorer Tywhon Pickford missed the game with a knee injury.
