Maple Grove Girls Hockey Ready for Second Season

No. 1 Maple Grove vs. No. 4 Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids

The top seeded Crimson will open section play Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Roseville Ice Arena. Maple Grove finished the regular season with an 18-5-2 record, earning the top seed in the section tournament.

The two teams met back on December, 8, with the Crimson picking up a 9-2 victory. In that contest, six skaters scored goals led by Hailey Herdine’s hat trick. Junior Taylor Wente scored twice and assisted on two other goals for Maple Grove. Junior goalie Coco Francis stopped 17 of 19 shots she faced in the win.

Inside The Numbers:
Maple Grove is led offensively by Wente’s 22 goals and 26 assists. Herdine, Tina Kampa and Lauren Kaufman finished with 24 points each for the Crimson.

Francis and Breanna Blesi have almost equally split time for the Crimson in net.

About Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids:
Since losing to Maple Grove, the Panthers have won 14 of 16 games including an impressive nine game winning streak. The Panthers are led by Taylor Turnquist. The senior has 37 goals and 31 assists on the season.

The winner will advance to the section championship game on Friday, Feb. 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Roseville Ice Arena.
