A garage/home on the 8900 block of Sycamore Lane North (near 90th Place North and Sycamore Lane) in Maple Grove received extensive damage following a fire the evening of Wednesday, March 2.

The Maple Grove Fire Department received the call around 5:45 p.m., according to Fire Chief Scott Anderson. Two individuals and a dog were home at the time the fire began and were uninjured.

Lyn Bartels, a nearby neighbor, said the homeowner was driving her car into her garage when "something caught fire."

"Another neighbor tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher and it was working until it ran out," Bartels said.

Fire investigators have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, but it appears the fire started under a car, according to Anderson who indicated he was not sure if the home would be considered total loss.

Four Maple Grove Fire Department stations responded, along with the Maple Grove Police Department, CenterPoint Energy, Xcel Energy, and North Memorial.
