Osseo Falls to Lakeville North 60-56 in State Semifinal

The Osseo Senior High Orioles boys basketball team had their undefeated run come to an end in the semifinals of the state tournament as they fell to Lakeville North 60-58 on Thursday, March 10.

“Lakeville North, they’re solid,” Osseo Head Coach Tim Theisen said.

The Orioles recipe for success during the regular season was their ability to create turnovers from their pressure. The Panthers turned the ball over 21 times, but Osseo could only convert them into 13 points.

“Typically we do a better job of securing those turnovers and putting them into points for us,” Theisen said. “It seemed like we’d get a steal and give it right back to them.”

Osseo trailed by ten in the first half before cutting the deficit to four at the half. Junior Nathan Reuvers scored 12 points for the Panthers and as a team they shot 66 percent from the field.

Orioles senior Allan Anderson kept the Orioles close scoring 19 points including a career high five from three-point range.

Trailing by five with 19 seconds remaining, Anderson hit his final three of his high school career giving the Orioles life. A steal of the ensuing inbound play and Osseo had an opportunity to tie or win the game with 11 seconds left. The Orioles turned the ball over and lost for the first time.

“We proved the world wrong,” Anderson said. “No one had us ranked in the top five. We proved we are a top team.”

Reuvers finished with 17 points to lead the Panthers.

Osseo will play in the third place game on Saturday, March 12 at 3:30 p.m. at Concordia St. Paul.
