Maple Grove City Council Sets 2016-2018 Goals

After a special meeting in February, the Maple Grove City Council approved a series of priorities for the next two years at its March 7 meeting. 

“The February 20, 2016, special meeting was very productive, and all in attendance shared insight into future challenges and opportunities,” Maple Grove City Administrator Heidi Nelson wrote in a memo to the council.

The five priorities set for 2016-2018, according to documents provided to the council, include:

  • Create a proactive economic development program to address retention, expansion, and recruitment of industry in Maple Grove
  • Embark on the comprehensive plan update process to create a long-term vision for the build-out of Maple Grove.
  • Prioritize coordination and leadership for information systems to support technology and efficiency advances throughout the organization.
  • Prioritize succession planning and staff development efforts throughout the organization. Streamline administrative and hiring processes.

“Establishing these goals provides city staff with clear direction and provides for a proactive approach to future development opportunities, streamlining operations and coordinating outreach,” Nelson wrote.

Before approving the 2016-2018, Councilmember Erik Johnson shared a thank you for Nelson and department directors for their work, time, and feedback.  A “good job by all,” he said.
