Adam's Pest Control Owners: Todd Leyse, Harold Leyse, and Andrea Leyse Guy

It was 45 years ago when Maple Grove resident Harold Leyse decided it was time.

After working in pest control for six years for another company and being promised a managerial role that didn’t happen, Harold was ready to move on.

“I was frustrated,” he said. “I decided to talk to a friend about a partnership." His decision to leave his former employer resulted in a new beginning of Adam’s Pest Control, a family-owned business focused on pest management and prevention.

At first, the business started out in a Golden Valley basement. Throughout the next 45 years, Adam’s Pest Control moved to several locations throughout the Twin Cities before settling in Medina. As the company grew, family members gradually became part of the business. Harold’s daughter and Maple Grove resident Andrea Leyse Guy joined the organization in 1990 as a secretary.

“I did a little bit of everything,” Andrea said. As the company grew, her experience and roles grew as well. Today, in addition to her role as Admin Division Manager, she shares the position of owner with her brother (and Maple Grove resident), Todd.

After Harold’s partner passed away in 1996, he thought briefly about selling his business. Instead, he decided to try to keep it in the family and called his son, Todd – who now serves as president and owner.

“All three of us are different, but we all have a strong work ethic and sense of humor,” Todd said of the family working together for more than two decades.

Their teamwork, along with a dedicated staff more the 90 people, continues to serve many long-time commercial and residential customers.

Harold retired in 2011 after leading the growing company for 40 years from its basement beginning and two-person operation, Adam’s Pest Control now serves multiple communities from their Medina and Nisswa offices.

While the company has grown in the last 45 years, what hasn’t changed is their strong sense of service to the industry, customers, and commitment to community. In addition to being part of organizations such as the Minnesota Pest Management Association, Adam’s Pest Control continues to be an active supporter of Maple Grove and area nonprofit organizations.

“The rest is history,” Harold said of working with his family. “It was the best decision I’ve ever made.”
