After months of preparation, Nothing Bundt Cakes opened in Maple Grove. The newest Minnesota store, located at 8085 Wedgewood Lane North off of Elm Creek Boulevard, is planning several grand opening events April 7-9.

Nothing Bundt Cakes, founded in 1997, has independently owned franchise locations throughout the United States. Made from scratch daily with fresh ingredients, the bakery offers cakes in a variety of sizes10 different flavors, and decorative options for any occasion. The Maple Grove location offers gift shop options as well.

Sisters Bianca Januik and Tasha Norden joined forces to jointly own the Maple Grove store, bringing in their longtime friend and previous co-worker Jessica Johnson as Operations Manager.

However, their journey with Nothing Bundt Cakes began years ago.

“We are huge dessert fans,” Januik said. After trying Nothing Bundt Cakes for the first time, Januik and her sister compared notes. “Their product is amazing.”

From that point on, Januik and her sister would routinely bring in Nothing Bundt Cakes for their staff at the Twin Cities childcare centers they owned. Conversations about a bakery started to include Johnson and a dream began to take shape.

Januik, Norden and Johnson met nearly 20 years ago while the three worked at childcare centers in Colorado. The sisters eventually decided to move to Minnesota to open and operate their own childcare centers. Despite a desire to move to the Midwest, a cancer diagnosis about 10 years ago kept Johnson in Colorado. Throughout the years, Johnson has kept in touch with the sisters, helping each open their respective childcare centers. Now cancer free, Johnson came to the Twin Cities last summer for a vacation. The trio baked and talked about how much fun it would be to open their own bakery.

A few weeks later, she received a call. “We found a prime location,” Januik told Johnson. “Are you interested?”

A move for Johnson and multiple conversations with Nothing Bundt Cakes started in the fall of 2015 - eventually leading to the bakery opening in Maple Grove.

“These girls are awesome - they are my extended family,” Johnson said of Januik and Norden. “I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else.”

It is the personalized, welcoming, family-feeling the trio bring to the Nothing Bundt Cakes in Maple Grove.

“We’re excited to be a part of and a partner in the community,” Januik said.
