As part of the 2016 U.S. News & World Report "Best High Schools" rankings, Maple Grove Senior High School and Wayzata High School received silver medal designations.

The annual award program uses several factors to determine the rank of a high school, according to U.S. News & World Report "... a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show it is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators."  New this year, graduation rates were added into the review process.

In Minnesota, Wayzata High School was ranked 13th and Maple Grove Senior High ranked 36th. Nearly 20,000 high schools nationwide evaluated for the ranking.

Seven schools in Minnesota were named gold medal schools in the U.S. News 2016 "Best High School" ranking, including nearby Orono Senior High and Edina High School. Maple Grove Senior High and Wayzata High were were among the 49 silver medal schools statewide.
