Maple Grove, North View Teachers Receive VFW Awards

Two teachers from the Osseo School District earned Teacher of the Year honors from Palmer Lake VFW District 7. 

Maple Grove Senior High Social Studies teacher Erik Lien was awarded the Palmer Lake VFW District 7 High School Teacher of the Year. He has also earned the Minnesota VFW’s High School Teacher of the Year Award.

North View Middle School Humanities teacher Kelly Armstrong was awarded the Palmer Lake VFW District 7’s Middle School Teacher of the Year. 

The awards are dedicated to teachers who promote civic responsibility, teach citizenship education topics regularly, and promote America’s history and traditions effectively through innovative teaching and resource development methods, according to the Osseo School District. 

VFW State Commander Duane Hermanson will present Lien with the state award on June 11. Lien was selected for the state award from 26 local VFW branches, and the state award from the nine Minnesota VFW districts. 

He will also go on to the VFW National Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. along with the state’s elementary and middle school representatives later this spring.
