Maple Grove Middle School student Thomas Beskow and Osseo Middle School student Paul Kochenderfer beat thousands of students in the National Geography Bee competition to qualify as two of the top 100 Geography Bee Scholars in the state of Minnesota.
Thomas tied for first place in the first round, which qualified him as one of the top 10 students in the state. After 10 rounds in the finals, Thomas ended up in seventh place.
At the state level, Paul received third place in the initial round but was eliminated in the next round. He still finished in the top 100 of the state.
Teachers Julie Spanier and Deb Pearson attended the Geography Bee to support their students.
