At its June 20 meeting, the Maple Grove City Council has approved to authorize the mayor and city administrator to enter into an agreement between Metropolitan Council (Metro Transit) and the city of Maple Grove for 2016 State Fair Shuttle Bus Service.
Metro Transit approached the city about providing shuttle bus service
from the Maple Grove Transit Station to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on the
following dates, according
to a memo provided at the meeting:
- Saturday, Aug. 27
- Sunday, Aug. 28
- Saturday, Sept. 3
- Sunday, Sept. 4
- Monday, Sept. 5 (Labor Day)
Staff and equipment would be provided by Metro Transit, according
to the memo, with buses running every 30 minutes from 8 a.m. to midnight (on
the dates listed above).
“This represents an opportunity for the city to provide a service to our resident at no cost to the city. Metro Transit will be able to tap into a growing market for its State Fair bus service. Ridership has averaged 20,000 over the past five years with a record high of 24,500 riders in 2015,” Maple Grove City Administration wrote in the Maple Grove City Council memo.
