A pair of local high school girls hockey players have been selected to the Women's U18 Select team that will compete in a three-game series against Canada.

Maple Grove Senior High senior and Plymouth resident Taylor Wente and Wayzata High School senior and Maple Grove resident Natalie Heising are among 22 players to play in the series beginning Thursday, Aug.18 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta. Wente has been named alternate captain for the team.

Wente and Heising are two of 11 players from Minnesota that were named to the team.

Both players were on the U.S. National team which won a gold medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women’s World Championship in January. During the 2015-16 season, Wente helped propel the Crimson girls hockey team to their
first state tournament appearance in program history.

The three-game series against Canada will be played Aug. 18-21, 2016 and is an annual event between the two countries dating back to 2007.
