When Old Country Buffet closed in Maple Grove in March, it became the site of a new opportunity for Dale Maxfield.

As the franchisee owner of several Golden Corral locations in Iowa and Nebraska, the Minnesota resident was interested in bringing Golden Corral to his home state. In the spring, family-owned and operated Maxfield Management Group started the wheels in motion to lease and renovate the former Old County Buffet location at 13603 Grove Drive in Maple Grove.

"The former Old County Buffet site is a good fit [for Golden Corral]," Maxfield said.

The new Golden Corral Restaurant features a new look, complete with new furniture, carpet, and grill. As a buffet, Golden Corral will feature a variety of items on their menu.

"I think the Maple Grove community will be very impressed," Maxfield said.

One of the newest restaurants in Maple Grove opened Sept. 1 after a  private ribbon cutting with area dignitaries and North Hennepin Area Chamber of Commerce Chamber members.

With the opening, approximately 100 new jobs will be brought to the community.

"The Maple Grove Golden Corral will run all the normal menu favorites plus we will have a smoker and will serve brisket, smoked turkey, smoked sausage, and other items," Maxfield said.

The corner location at Grove Square is considered "an important part of the center," Property Manager and Sidcor President Dale Dobroth said. "The property had about 30 inquires within a month and a half after Old County Buffet closed."

"Golden Corral will be a good addition to the center," Dobroth said.
