Sports Scoreboard: Osseo Girls Soccer Starts Fast

Friday afternoon the Orioles found the net early and often as they defeated Caledonia 9-0. Junior Kenya Davis led the way with three goals in the victory and seven players scored goals providing a balanced attack.
“We’ve got several players who are very versatile in their ability to play multiple positions,” head coach Traci Ohlenkamp said. “It provided some great offensive chances.”
Bailey Tschida started in goal and recorded the shutout.
Saturday, the Orioles faced St. Charles and after being tied at a goal after regulation, came away with a 3-1 win in overtime.
“We have a fabulous group and they’re already showing just how dynamic they can be on the field together,” Ohlenkamp said. “Returning varsity players provided the communication and physical play that it took to make it through a tough 80 minutes of regulation time. Our varsity newcomers provided speed and versatility during overtime which gave us the win.”
Lariah Boone scored twice and Emma Hauser once for the Orioles who open conference play at home on Tuedsay, Aug. 30 against Spring Lake Park, they then travel to Armstrong on Thursday to face the Falcons.
After Kenya Davis scored three goals on Friday, St. Charles kept her bottled up by double-teaming her for much of the game.
Junior Gretchen Nistler played all 90 minutes Saturday and according to Ohlenkamp was a standout in the midfield.
Juniors Lariah Boone and Samantha Goettsche and senior Kali Sarim anchored a strong defense and helped generate offensive opportunities.
Maple Grove Volleyball Defeats Chanhassen in Season Opener
The Crimson volleyball team started the season with a win on Saturday, Aug. 27 with a 3-0 victory over Chanhassen as part of the Breakdown Sports USA Sideout Classic.
The Crimson won a close first game 25-21 and then defeated the Storm 25-16 and 25-17 in the sweep.
Maple Grove plays a pair of home games this week. The Crimson host Delano on Tuesday, then St. Michael-Albertville on Thursday.
No. 15 Orioles Fall to Rochester Mayo in Opener
The Osseo Orioles volleyball team dropped a tight game 3-2 in their season opener at the Sideout Classic. After losing game one 25-18, the Orioles rallied to win the next two 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead. Mayo would rally to force a fifth game, defeating the Osseo 25-21. The fifth set came down to the wire with Mayo prevailing 16-14.
The Orioles travel to Roseville on Tuesday, Aug. 30 to face the Raiders.
Heritage Christian Academy Loses to Kenyon-Wanamingo in Battle of Top Ranked Teams
The Heritage Christian Academy Eagles took third place in the class A volleyball tournament a year ago. They entered this season ranked number four in the preseason polls. They didn’t have to wait long for their first test as they battled the top ranked team in class 2A, Kenyon-Wanamingo.
The Eagles lost a hard fought game 3-0 dropping the first game 25-23, the second 25-18 and the third 32-30.
Heritage Christian travels to Centennial on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
