In this sponsored segment of Ask the Realtor, Broker/Realtor David Garves shares how long before listing your home should you find a realtor.

Q: How long before I plan on listing my home should I find a realtor? For example, I’m thinking of moving next spring.

A: I would suggest having your first meeting with your realtor at least six months prior to listing your home, if possible.

This will provide you an opportunity to become comfortable with your realtor, learn about recent market conditions, receive information regarding the marketing of your home, set expectation regarding your home sale and then track the market and performance of comparable homes in the market.

At a minimum, I require 10 days to meet prior to listing a home. This is the quickest time frame we can properly bring in the homestager, schedule the photographer, launch a premarketing campaign, get signs and “coming soon” postcards out  and make sure the home is 100 percent (never anything less) ready to sell!

BOTTOM LINE: Talking to a realtor as soon as you consider selling your home is a great way to begin gathering the most current information about your market!
