Maple Grove Boys Soccer Advances With Big Win Over St. Michael-Albertville

Oct 14, 2016 05:12AM ● By Doug Erlien
The Maple Grove Crimson boys soccer team continued to pressure St. Michael-Albertville and in the second half, that pressure finally paid off in their 6-3 victory in their section quarterfinal game.

Seniors Ryan DeBois and Juan Mantilla provided a strong offense. DeBois, who led the Crimson with 18 goals during the regular season, notched three against the Knights. Mantilla scored the first of his two goals at 35:11 of the first half. The Knights answered at 29:53 on a header off of a Knights free kick.

The Crimson grabbed the lead on a free kick off the foot of DeBois that appeared to catch the Knights off guard. The Crimson would not look back and added another DeBois goal before the half to take a 3-1 lead.

Knights goalkeeper Asaba Chomilo stayed cool under fire and in the process kept his team
close and at 21:24 of the second half, the Knights drew within a goal on a wide angle shot that found the back of the net.

Maple Grove answered with three straight goals and came away with a 6-3 win.

The Crimson will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 15 as they travel to Moorhead to face the Spuds.
