Fast starts have become the norm in the post season for the Maple Grove Senior High girls soccer team. The Crimson scored early in their quarterfinal game against Osseo and in their 6-1 semifinal victory against Champlin Park on Tuesday, Oct. 18, it took just under four minutes to take the lead.

“The kids really executed. We wanted to come out fast,” Crimson Head Coach Ben LeVahn said. “We did it the other night and they really did come out with an intention.”

The Crimson not only came out fast, they were aggressive on the defensive end turning over the Rebels and transitioning to pressure Champlin Park on offense. Sophomores Mannon McMahon and Meredith Haakenson each scored two goals in the game while Shelby Handberg and Mia Omar each added a goal.

“This is a fun team,” LeVahn said. “They go both ends. This is the highest scoring team we’ve ever had and we had a chance to get our 11th shutout of the year."

With the win, Maple Grove will face Centennial in the
Section 5AA championship game on Thursday, 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Centennial High School The two teams finished their regular season game tied 1-1 in early September.
