Several parks in the Three Rivers Park District will temporarily close for scheduled deer hunts in October and November.

The hunts, according to Three Rivers, are "intended to keep deer herds in balance with available habitat."

October 28-30

Crow-Hassan Park Reserve (Hanover/Rogers) and Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve (Savage) will close for archery deer hunts Oct. 28-30. The off-leash dog area at Crow-Hassan Park Reserve will remain open.

November 12-13

At Elm Creek Park Reserve (Dayton/Maple Grove) a shotgun deer hunt is scheduled November 12-13. The park will be be closed during this time.

November 25-27

A youth mentored shotgun hunt is scheduled for November 25-27 at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve, Rockford. The park will be be closed during this time.

Hunters have already been selected for this year’s hunts.

"In addition to temporarily closing the parks to the public, the park district takes several measures to ensure the safety of nearby residents. For parks that have homes located adjacent to park borders, shotgun hunting boundaries are established well within park property," Three Rivers Park District stated in a release. "Hunters may not go beyond these boundaries unless they are accompanied by a Park Police officer. In addition, all shotgun hunters must attend a pre-hunt orientation that stresses firearm safety procedures. Deer hunters must also follow all applicable DNR regulations."
