Several years after assuming ownership of the Maple Grove Sylvan Learning Center, franchisee owners Sean and Hillary Tilton, along with Molly Ebers, received the Highest Franchisee Revenue Award at the annual Sylvan conference in September.
“They are passionate about the business - helping children and the academics,” Sylvan Learning CEO John McAuliffe. “They are the leaders in the franchisee community. People look up to them for guidance, best practices, and what are they doing right.”
“We felt surprised and honored. We’ve been growing our business. We’ve been working hard to get to this point. We didn’t expect to be here quite yet, but we’re very happy,” co-franchisee owner Sean Tilton said.
Wife and husband team of Hillary and Sean, along with Hillary's sister Molly Ebers, own 14 sites - seven in Minnesota and seven in Michigan. “We’ve enjoyed being members of the Maple Grove community and working working students and families,” Sean said.
Sylvan Learning Center has been part of the family for decades. Robert Malone purchased the original center in Grand Rapids in 1985, and expanding to ownership with several Michigan locations. Hillary and Sean, along Ebers, continue to operate the Michigan sites. Three years ago, they expanded to ownership into Minnesota - where Sean grew up.
“We find it a very rewarding business to be in,” Sean said. “We both grew up with families where education important - we believe in lifelong learning."
Sylvan Learning Center provides several programs and options for students in grades K-12, including tutoring, college prep as well as coding and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math). At the Maple Grove location, parents connect with Sylvan Learning throughout the year to help with a variety of areas, such as tutoring, enrichment classes (robotics, coding, math edge, STEM), and college prep.

“Sylvan helps students build confidence, success in the classroom,” Sean said. “We find the results very rewarding. I think that separates Sylvan is that we are individual programs - really tailored to the needs of each specific student. The ongoing communication with parents and students, and school supplements the students education and their experience - leading to their success.”
