For the intersections of County Road 81 and Elm Creek Boulevard, the city of Maple Grove and Hennepin County recently completed a review of recent crash data.
The analysis, according to Hennepin County, showed:
-Almost 75 percent of all crashes at the intersections happened at the southernmost of the two County Road 81 and Elm Creek Boulevard intersections.
-Half of the injury-related crashes involved right-angle crashes. A “majority of which involved drivers running a red light as they traveled southwest on Elm Creek Boulevard.”
To reduce the trend of accidents, the city of Maple Grove and Hennepin County have determined improvements to signal visibility and traffic flow. Completed changes include:
-Installing reflective yellow borders on the traffic signal back plates
-Adding a traffic signal head on the near side of a key intersection
-Replacing all “up arrow” traffic signal indications with more common circular indications
Ongoing, the city and county will be continuing to review traffic signal timing.
“Hennepin County and City of Maple Grove will continue to monitor the intersections and remain committed to reducing the number of crashes at the County Road 81 and Elm Creek Boulevard intersections,” Hennepin County stated in a release.
