Updated: FEMA Disaster Assistance Registration Available in Response to September Storm, Flooding in Maple Grove

Original article Dec. 6 - Following a Sept. 21 storm brought nearly 10 inches of rain to the Maple Grove area in less than 12 hours, representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are currently in the Maple Grove area to "assist residents in applying for disaster assistance from the heavy rains and flooding that we experienced this past September," according to the city of Maple Grove

Residents who experienced damage to their property as a result of the heavy rains and flooding on Sept. 21, 2016, are encouraged to register with FEMA by Jan. 2, 2017, according to the city of Maple Grove. 

Determination as to whether assistance will be provided in the form of low cost recovery loans or grants is still under review by FEMA.

By Phone: 1-800-621-3362.  

Assistance is available in English, Spanish, and other languages. The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585.

Updated article Dec. 8, 2016 - The following updated information was shared by the city of Maple Grove website:

A disaster recovery center is opening for members of the public Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 in at the former Brooklyn Park Library site, located at 8600 Zane Avenue North in Brooklyn Park, according to Hennepin County Emergency Management Facebook page. Individuals can apply for recovery assistance for damage received during the September flooding. Update via Hennepin County Government​ on Twitter Friday, Dec. 16: "Due to the incoming winter weather, the disaster recovery center will close at noon today and over the weekend. It will reopen on Monday."

Registration with FEMA must be completed Jan. 30, 2017.  

Determination as to whether assistance will be provided in the form of low cost recovery loans or grants is still under review by FEMA.

If registration is completed online or on the phone, residents do not need to go to the physical location, according to the city of Maple Grove website.  

Hours for in-person registration are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. It will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31, 2016 and Jan. 1, 2017. 

Individuals should bring the following with them, according to Hennepin County Emergency Management :

  • Social Security Number
  • Address of damaged home or apartment
  • Description of damage (pictures, if available)
  • Information about insurance coverage
  • Telephone number
  • Mailing address
  • Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of funds.
