Winter Storm Warning Forecast for Friday, Saturday in Maple Grove

After a mild November and early December, the cold of winter for the end of 2016 has settled on Maple Grove.

The days of bitter cold and wind is forecast to turn into a Winter Storm Warning beginning noon Friday, Dec. 16 through 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, according to the National Weather Service Twin Cities.  

“Temperatures between five and 15 degrees below zero along with five to 10 mile per hour winds early this morning will produce dangerously cold wind chills 20 to 30 degrees below zero across all of central and southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin,” the National Weather Service Twin Cities stated Thursday morning. A wind chill advisory is anticipated to expire Thursday.

Snow is forecast to begin getting heavy Friday afternoon and ending Saturday morning with “blowing and drifting through the afternoon,” according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall amounts of six to 10 inches are forecast. Wind gusts may reduce visibility as well.

Temperatures are forecast to remain cold through the weekend with a high of 4 degrees on Thursday, 14 degrees on Friday, and 3 degrees, and -6 degrees on Sunday.
