Sports Recap: Heritage Wins Big Over Rival Maranatha

Heritage Christian Academy won both their games this past week. The Eagles defeated St. Croix Prep 83-64 on Tuesday, Jan. 10, then cruised past rival Maranatha 76-47 on Friday, Jan. 13. Zach Johansen and CJ Woda continue to lead the way for the Eagles as the duo combined for 99 of the team’s 159 points.
The Eagles play three games this week including two at home. Tuesday, Jan. 17, they host Southwest Christian followed by a road game at Bethany Academy on Thursday, Jan. 19 before hosting the top ranked team in Class A, Minneapolis North on Friday, Jan. 20.
Maple Grove improved to 9-1 on the season with three wins this past week. The Crimson needed overtime to defeat Totino-Grace 87-84 on Tuesday, Jan. 10, then crushed Spring Lake Park 93-49, the Crimson picked up their biggest win of the week with a 81-70 victory over Hopkins on Saturday, Jan. 14. Senior Brad Davison scored 41 points.
Maple Grove plays a pair of home games this week as they host Robbinsdale Armstrong on Tuesday, Jan. 17, then they host rival Osseo on Friday, Jan. 20.
Osseo dropped to 8-4 on the season with a pair of losses last week. The Orioles lost 83-72 to Armstrong, then fell to top ranked Champlin Park 81-64 on Thursday, Jan. 12. Zach Theisen continued his strong junior campaign scoring 26 and 23 points.
The Orioles hit the road this week as they travel to Totino-Grace on Tuesday, Jan. 17, then to Maple Grove on Friday, Jan. 20.
Heritage Christian Academy finished the week 2-1 and included wins over St. Croix Prep 63-51 and Minneapolis North 67-50 and a 62-60 overtime loss to Maranatha Christian Academy. The Mustangs, who last lost a conference game in 2010, led 31-19 at the half only to watch as the Eagles rallied to tie the game and force overtime. The Eagles were led in scoring by Taylie Scott with 18 points, Maddy Torve added 16 and Annika Simonson 14 in the loss.
The Eagles travel to Southwest Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and St. Croix Lutheran on Friday, Jan 20.
Maple Grove went 2-1 on the week as they defeated Totino-Grave 64-60 on Tuesday, Jan. 10, then crushed Spring Lake Park 64-24 on Thursday, Jan. 14. The Crimson dropped a big section game against Moorhead 63-61 on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The Crimson travel to Armstrong on Tuesday, Jan. 17 before hosting rival Osseo on Friday, Jan 20.
The Osseo Orioles picked up a last second win over Bloomington Kennedy on Saturday, Jan 14. Mikaela Homola hit the game winner as the Orioles rallied after being down 21 points with seven minutes remaining in the contest. The win broke a six game losing streak. Prior to the victory, the Orioles dropped a pair of games this past week as they lost 52-43 to Armstrong and 58-43 to Champlin Park.
The Orioles face Totino-Grace on Tuesday, Jan. 17 then face Maple Grove on Friday, Jan. 20.
The Maple Grove girls lost to Hill-Murray 2-1 in overtime in the only game they played this past week. With senior Taylor Wente participating in the U18 World Championships, the Crimson couldn’t find the back of the net against the Pioneers.
Three games are on tap for Maple Grove this week. They travel to Armstrong/Cooper Tuesday, Jan. 17, then host Eagan and Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids on Friday, Jan 20 and Saturday, Jan 21.
North Metro finished the week 2-1 with wins over Armstrong/Cooper and St. Paul Blades, the Stars won their fifth game in six contents. Saturday, Jan. 14, the Stars lost to Spring Lake Park/ Coon Rapids.
This week, the Stars host Irondale and Rosemount on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and Thursday, Jan 19, and travel to Totino-Grace on Saturday, Jan. 21.
Maple Grove won a pair of games last week extending their winning streak to five. The Crimson defeated Andover 6-1 on Thursday, Jan 12, then beat Anoka 7-1 on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The Crimson host a pair of big games this week. Thursday, Jan. 19, the Elk River come to town, then a rematch against the Blaine who defeated Maple Grove 5-2 earlier in the season.
Osseo picked up their first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Coon Rapids on Thursday, Jan. 12. Michah Beisner, Sam Dixon and Nate Musial scored goals for the Orioles. Saturday, Jan 14, the Orioles lost 5-4 to Armstrong/Cooper.
The Orioles host Centennial on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and Champlin Park on Thursday, Jan 19 this week.
