Two Osseo Area Schools Elementary Teachers Selected as Minnesota Teacher of the Year Candidates

Two ISD 279 - Osseo Area Schools teachers, Breanna Blad and Dennis Loeks, have been chosen as 2017 Minnesota Teacher of the Year candidates.

Breanna Blad has been a kindergarten teacher at Basswood Elementary in Maple Grove for the past three years, prior to that she was at Garden City Elementary in Brooklyn Center.

Dennis Loeks has been a music teacher at Palmer Lake Elementary for eight years.  He was nominated in 2016 as well.

A selection panel of 25 community leaders will name a group of semifinalists from an initial field of 132 candidates from across the state and later, the finalists. The 2016 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced Sunday, May 7, at the Radisson Blu Mall of America in Bloomington.

Candidates include pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade and Basic Education teachers from public or private schools.

Education Minnesota organizes and underwrites the Teacher of the Year program with support from several other organizations and businesses.

Osseo Area Schools teachers Lisa Wisti Schutte, Dennis Loeks, and Kristin Pengra-Anderson were named 2016 candidates.
