One of the newest restaurants in Maple Grove, Sumo Japanese Sushi & Steak House, celebrated their opening with a North Hennepin Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting Friday, Jan. 27.

Located at 7904 Main Street North (the former site of Mt. Fuji), the sushi and steak house is owned by Lawrence Tan, Zhaxi Taxing, Tsering Sonoma (Chef Keney), and Jason Mei. It is their first location.

The people and culture of the community drew the group to the Maple Grove area, according to Tan.

"It is very vibrant and upbeat here," he said.

The restaurant serves a variety of authentic Japanese food.  "We want to bring something very different to the area," Tan said. "We want people to enjoy the taste of the food and visual experience - the presentation will blow people away.  The food is amazingly decorated and very visual."

The menu at Sumo Japanese Sushi & Steak House offers a variety of options for dining in or take out and is open seven days a week.

The hours of operation, according to the website, is:
11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday
4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday
4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday
Noon to 11 p.m. Saturday
Noon to 10 p.m. Sunday
