It has been 12 years since nonprofit organization CROSS Services in Rogers first hosted their Empty Bowls event to raise awareness of hunger issues in the community.
Since the beginning, volunteer organizer and Maple Grove resident Pam Hanson has continued to chair the event joined by a team of volunteers.
What started as small fundraiser with soup and bread became an event of food and entertainment to highlight the needs in the communities served by CROSS (Maple Grove, Osseo, Champlin, Corcoran, Dayton, Rogers).
This year, Empty Bowls is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 9 at the Maple Grove Community Center. Admission is $10 per person and $25 per family. Tickets are available at the door. All proceeds benefit CROSS programs, such as the food shelf and housing assistance.
"I like to help
where I can," Hanson said. "I have the best volunteers, and so many artists and others donating. Ruthan Gagner and Jeannette Barreiro are ceramic artists who have been with us for many, many years. It's thrilling to know that the whole community works together--the sponsors, the vendors, the volunteers--to help their neighbors and each other."
The fundraising goal for the 2017 CROSS Empty Bowls event is $20,000.
