"All year people were telling us this is where we're going to be, this is what's expected of us. Now that we've gotten there, I think it's a weight off the shoulders," Head Coach Nick Schroeder said. "Now these guys can redial it back in and start our third season."
The Crimson jumped out to a quick 13-2 lead on a hot start shooting from senior Jack Hutchison who finished with 15 points on the night.
"When you see those first few shots go in, the hoop looks a little bigger," Hutchison said. "My teammates put me in great spots to make some baskets and I was fortunate enough to have some fall."
Rogers made a run of their own to cut the Crimson lead to one, 32-31 at the half.
The Royals continued their strong play into the second half and led by senior guard Matt Carik, led by six points with a little more than six minutes to play in the game.
That's when senior Brad Davison took over.
"There was a time when we looked up and we were down six. I brought everyone back to half court while Tywhon was shooting free throws and I just huddled them up and said 'we've got six minutes left to leave it all on the floor'," Davison said. "We didn't plan to lose this game. We had planned to play in the Target Center."
Davison led all scorers with 27 hard earned points and the Crimson are headed to the state tournament for the second straight season.
The 2017 State Basketball Tournament for Class AAAA begins March 22 at the Target Center. Game times have not yet been determined.
