Maple Grove Hot From the Field in Win Over Andover

The Maple Grove Senior High boys basketball team combined a solid effort defensively with 58
percent shooting from the field into a 73-50 win over Andover in the
quarterfinal round of the MSHSL State Boys Basketball Tournament Wednesday, March 22.
After trailing 16-15 with a little more than nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Crimson used a 25-6 run to close the half with senior Bubba Horton making a three-point shot at the buzzer to put the exclamation point the on the first tournament win for the program since 2000.
Senior Brad Davison led the way with 22 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in the win. Three other Crimson players hit double figures on the stat sheet including senior Tywhon Pickford, who scored the first seven points for Maple Grove, Ryan Bredensteiner with 13 and Jack Huchison added 12 for the Crimson who advance to the semifinal round.
In the semifinal round, the Crimson will face Apple Valley who defeated Cretin-Derham Hall in the quarterfinal round. The semifinal round is 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at Target Center. Tickets are $14 for adults and $9 students.
