“It was a special year,” Crimson Head Coach Nick Schroeder said. “Our guys competed as hard as they could. Brad’s beat up, that’s obvious you could see that out there. All of our guys are tired, we gave it everything we had for the entire tournament.”
Maple Grove led the entire first half and a great pass by Brad Davison to Tywhon Pickford pushed the lead to seven at 32-25 as the game reached halftime. Pickford provided the offense in the first half, leading all scorers with 16 points on seven for nine shooting from the field.
The second half saw the Trojans heat up from the field as they shot 60 percent compared to the Crimson’s 29. Wayzata tied the game at the 15 minute mark as they opened the second half on a 9-2 run. They continued to put the pressure on offensively and would lead by as many as seven points.
Davison led all scorers with 24 points he added eight rebounds and nine assists in his final game in a Crimson uniform.
“They don’t come around very often,” Schroeder said of his leader Davison. “He’s an outstanding man. I can’t say it any better than that, in every aspect of life. He left a legacy and he showed our young kids from kindergarten to young kids in our program how to do it.”
The senior group finished their four year run in the Crimson program with two state tournament appearances and increased win totals of 19, 23, 25 and 28 this season.
“We talked about the pride we have as a coaching staff with those ten guys,” Schroeder said about his message to his seniors. “How much we respected their work every day in practice and games. It was a good finish.”
Maple Grove finished the season 28-4.
