The Maple Grove Crimson baseball team struggled at the plate for six innings against Totino-Grace on Friday, April 21. Lucky for the Crimson the games are seven innings.

The Crimson took advantage of a pair of walks and two batters that were hit by pitches in scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win in come from behind fashion 7-6.

“Give the kids credit for taking advantage of their walks and hit batters,” Head Coach Darby Carlson said. “We needed that. We’re really struggling at the plate.”

Totino-Grace took advantage of a Crimson defensive miscue to jump out to a 5-1 in the fourth inning.

The offense couldn’t solve Totino-Grace starting pitcher Zach Jezierski as he held the Maple Grove bats to just two runs and five hits.

Then came the bottom of the seventh inning. Dylan Peck beat out an infield single, Caleb Gates walked followed by Zach Friedman being hit by a pitch to load the bases. A Josh Tyler walk cut the deficit to 6-3, then Curtis Haugen hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Gates. Bubba Horton singled to left field driving in two runs, tying the game at six. Hayden Thomsen singled to left field leading to the come from behind victory. Junior Jerome Gooley picked up the win.

The Crimson won their second straight game after opening the season with three losses and travel to Andover to face the Huskies next Tuesday, April 25.
