The Maple Grove Crimson Girls Lacrosse team advanced to the state tournament with a 12-6 Section 8 Championship victory over Osseo/Park Center on Wednesday, June 7 at Osseo Senior High.

After falling behind 2-0 courtesy of goals from OPC’s Gabrielle Holton and Laura Denchfield, the Crimson offensive attack came to life. Maple Grove tied the game with goals from Emily Herdine, who finished the contest with five goals, and Jersey Beranek.

The key to the Crimson win might have come on the defensive end. Maple Grove shadowed OPC star Margot Coomes who ended the game with a single goal and limited possession time.

Paige Cassibo scored three first half goals for Maple Grove who advanced to the state tournament for the second straight season.

The state tournament begins on Tuesday, June 13 at Minnetonka High School.
