The Maple Grove Senior High School Crimson girls softball team will begin their
journey in the state tournament on Thursday, June 8 as they face top seed and
defending state champion Chanhassen at 9 a.m. at Caswell Park in Mankato in the Class AAAA quarterfinals.
The Crimson (16-9) seem to be peaking at time according to Crimson Head Coach Jim Koltes.
“We didn’t take our Florida trip this year,” Koltes said. “We had kids taking different spring breaks and school trips at different times so it just took us a while to get set on who we are and what we can do.”
It has been no secret, the Maple Grove softball program has been one of the top programs in the state this years team seems to be drawing on its history.
“We talk a lot about tradition does not graduate,” Koltes said. “We feel we are driven to want to carry on our program’s successes and they see making the state tournament as what this program does.”
Maple Grove will have to deal with a talented Storm team that boasts the metro player of the year on their squad in Marybeth Olson.
“They are a strong hitting team and the defending state champs,” Koltes said. “It will be a challenge, but that is why you play the games.”
