Sports Shorts: Track and Field Champions, Lacrosse and Baseball Tournaments on Deck

The Maple Grove Crimson girls lacrosse team will play in their second straight state tournament on Tuesday, June 13 at Minnetonka High School. The Crimson will face the second seed in the tournament, Prior Lake at 1 p.m. Emily Herdine leads the way for Maple Grove with 56 goals and 23 assists.
Congratulations to Crimson senior Jack Dugan who was named as one of seven finalists for Mr. Lacrosse. The award is announced on June 18.
Maple Grove will face the second seeded Forest Lake Rangers on Thursday, June 15 at 3 p.m. at CHS Field in St. Paul. Admission at CHS Field is $9 for adults and $6 for students.
Maple Grove advanced to the state tournament with a victory over St. Michael-Albertville.
Heritage Christian Academy lost 14-2 to top seed Legacy Christian Academy in the section 4A championship game.
Maple Grove senior Alex Miley won the 3200 meter run and then placed third in the 1600 meter run.
Osseo eighth-grader Nyalaam Jok won the 2A girls high jump, clearing 5-8. (The state record is 5-11)
Osseo’s Corey Moody finished third in the 800 meter and setting a school record 1:54.03.
Sophomore Evan Hull took sixth in both the 100 and 200 meters and set a new school record of 10.78 seconds in the 100 meter.
Osseo’s Azaria Reed announced she will continue her basketball career at Missouri Southern.
Congratulations to the Crimson girls softball team for finishing sixth in the state tournament. Maple Grove lost in the quarterfinals to top seed Chanhassen, then rebounded defeating Park before losing to Buffalo on the consolation championship.
