The Maple Grove Crimson boys basketball team opened their annual camp for first through fourth grade on Monday, June 26 at Maple Grove Senior High School.

"That's our main goal is to get as many kids in the gym as we can, get them around our guys," said Head Coach Nick Schroeder. "I think it's beneficial for our guys as well as the kids to interact, get to know each other and develop that role model aspect in our program."

Schroeder estimated around 45 campers will take advantage of the opportunity to improve their games. The focus of the Crimson Summer Basketball Academy is on fundamentals with stations varying from passing and dribbling to defensive drills focusing on boxing and closing out.

"I remember Warren Bolin camps back in the day," said Schroeder of his early camp memories. "He was awesome, he dunked off a ladder at the end of camp and talked about his bald head and how he used it in his triple threat. I remember all those things. I loved camp when I was growing up. Hopefully I can give these kids the same experience."

The Summer Basketball Academy will host a camp for players in grades 5th-8th on July 10-20. For more information click here (activity code 307101).
