Say what you will about the Minnesota State Fair being the “official-unofficial end of summer" - that day might be reserved for the second Monday in August.
“School is right around the corner,” Osseo Activities Director Bill Quan said. “It’s kind of like when Target puts school stuff out in July.”
It’s an exciting time of year that has everyone ready to go. Maple Grove Voice reached out to coaches and players at Maple Grove and Osseo High Schools along with Heritage Christian Academy to get their thoughts on the start of the season.
“I always look forward to the fall season starting because you have energy from a bunch of kids excited about the upcoming year, willing to do whatever it takes for the school and each other.” - Matt Lombardi, Maple Grove Football Head Coach
“A lot of us have been working hard all off-season to make sure we make it back to the state championship and that’s what we plan to do. I’m just excited to see what God has in store for this team. It’s going to be a fun last ride with my brothers.” - Greg Arrell, Osseo Football- Quarterback
“What excites me the most about this season in particular is the number of seniors we will have in the program. These seniors offer a TON of experience and positive leadership for the younger players in our program. This will be the largest group of seniors I’ve had since beginning my time with Osseo Girls Soccer.” - Traci Ohlenkamp, Osseo Girls Soccer Head Coach
"I am excited because as a team we have a great mix of talented youth and experience. We expect to compete for both the conference and section titles." - Paige Hinze, Maple Grove Volleyball Player
“I am looking forward to seeing a bunch of new girls get the opportunity to play varsity volleyball. There are some young girls that get to step into a leadership role and I am excited to see it unfold.” - Mandi Burian, Osseo Volleyball Head Coach
“I’m excited to get back on the field with our guys and see how the hard work from this offseason will pay off. Our players and our staff have worked hard to set goals and build a stronger system. We are all eager to get started.” - Ryan Stockhaus, Osseo Football Head Coach
“It is always fun for me to see how much the girls have improved since I last saw them play. We have two very talented players and a number of girls who have been working on their tennis game. I also enjoy working with the girls and helping them find success on and off the courts. This is the start of my 32nd year, and I never get tired of it!” - Dan Haertl, Maple Grove Girls Tennis Head Coach
