At the Aug. 21 meeting, the Maple Grove City Council adopted a resolution approving the PUD Development Stage Plan for Life Time Fitness Swim School and the Final Plat of Arbor Lakes 8th Addition
The resolution approved for the Life Time Fitness Swim School PUD Development Stage Plan is for the purpose of constructing a “17,745 square-foot swim school at the southwest corner of the intersection of Hemlock Lane and Forestview Lane,” according to documents provided to the Council. The two-acre area would be near the northwest side Skye at Arbor Lakes.
The project has been making its way through several city council approvals since 2016.
“The exciting concept for us is it’s a single destination for members and non-members that are registered in swimming activities. From our perspective, our brand is very important,” Life Time Fitness Vice President of Development Jeff Melby told the council during the June 5 meeting. “We envision the building facade would not only fit in with the area, residential and commercial, but also be a nice and attractive building.”
According to documents provided to the council at the June 5 meeting, the proposed 17,750 square feet facility would include two swimming pools (with swimming lessons for all levels), a locker room, and a coffee bar.
"Life Time has enjoyed a strong relationship with the City of Maple Grove in their shared facility south of Weaver Lake Road. Demand for these popular aquatic related services and programs are often greater than Life Time can provide in the shared facility," Life Time Fitness stated in their previous proposal.
