"We talked the other day about our start and how we have stay grounded," Head Coach Sean Haugen said. "I knew coming in we would be strong in certain position, however, it's great to see they are doing great things at all positions."
The win over the Orioles was the first for the Crimson in 14 years. The last time Maple Grove defeated Osseo in volleyball, George Bush was president of the United States and members of the current senior class were four-years-old.
“Beating Osseo will forever be one of my best memories,” senior captain Paige Hinze said. “It is a great accomplishment that we will always be proud of. The team now is focused on competing for the conference title.”
The Crimson swept the Orioles 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23 in front of a packed gym at Osseo High School.
"Winning the match against Osseo was awesome," Haugen said. "It's so long since the program last won. Once the final kill was down, I thought the team would rush the court. The final point came from a [Alexie] Pryd kill and they celebrated like any other win. They know how big of a win this was not them, but for the program."
Maple Grove is not ranked in the most recent poll provided by the Volleyball Coaches Association.
The Crimson face Park Center and third ranked Champlin Park. Osseo hosts Mahtomedi, Delano and Blaine next week.
