A new option for families seeking speech and language therapy and occupational therapy for their children has opened in Maple Grove.
Located at 11100 86th Avenue North, near Zachary Lane and Weaver Lake Road, Family Speech & Therapy Services opened their fifth location in June.
“This is a great community, there are so many things going on for families. It was a great community we wanted to be a part of,” Family Speech and Therapy Services Director of Operations/Occupational Therapist Sarah Biers said. “And, we saw a need in this area. There are a lot of great hospital systems in the area - but, we have a different approach. We’re a smaller organization and work hard to have convenience for families, to know our families - we saw there wasn’t a lot of outpatient clinics that were like us.”
Founded in 2004, Family Speech and Therapy Services focuses primarily on pediatric care and specializes speech, occupational, feeding, physical, and orofacial myofunctional therapy services.
Recognizing taking the first steps can be challenging, Biers said one of the things setting Family Speech and Therapy Services apart is that “we try to make this an easy process for families.”
“For most families, navigating medical systems is complicated. If you’ve never done it, it can be confusing,” she said. When contacting Family Speech and Therapy Services, parents provide basic information about the situation. From there, the Maple Grove business assists in navigating the process.
“We’ll get the doctor’s orders, schedule an evaluation within three weeks of the first phone call. We do all the background work ourselves - such as check insurance and verify benefits to help people understand,” Biers said. “Our goal is to make the process seamless. After the evaluation, we know a little more information.”
Since they’ve opened, she said word continues to spread and families are reaching out. As the site grows, they plan on continuing to grow their staff and connect with the community by working with other youth-focused professional and educating others through speaking opportunities.
“We’re excited we’re here,” Biers said of the Maple Grove location.
Family Speech and Therapy Services has additional locations in Andover, Edina, Otsego, and St. Louis Park.
