Magic Continues for Maple Grove Girls Soccer

Oct 27, 2017 06:16AM ● By Doug Erlien
The Maple Grove Senior High girls soccer team's magical season continued Thursday, Oct. 26 as the Crimson defeated East Ridge 3-0 in the state tournament quarterfinal round at Chisago Lakes High School.

The Crimson, playing in their first state tournament game, were greeted with temperatures in the 30’s and winds that brought the wind chill into the 20’s.

Lauren Bredensteiner scored the opening goal three minutes into the game and the Crimson never looked back.

After holding the 1-0 lead at halftime, the Crimson extended the lead when a East Ridge player was called for a handball violation in the goalkeeper’s box resulting in a penalty kick.

Mia Omar took advantage scoring and giving the Crimson a 2-0 lead.

Maple Grove wasn’t finished. The Crimson scored again three minutes later with Lexi Miller extending the lead to 3-0.

Sarah Cortez picked up yet another shutout her 12th of the season and fourth of the playoffs. The sophomore goaltender has yet to allow a goal in the postseason.

The Crimson will face Lakeville North 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 at US Bank Stadium.
