The Maple Grove Crimson football team advanced to the second round of the 2017 playoffs with a 33-10 win over Wayzata on Friday, Oct. 27 at Crimson Stadium.

With temperatures at kickoff in the lower 30’s and a mixture of snow and rain falling, the Crimson, led by junior running back Evan Hull ran through the Trojans in the second half.

The first half wasn’t as easy. Like they had when the teams met in the final game of the regular season, the Trojans scored first with a 28-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Maple Grove would take the lead for good when Hull scored the first of his four touchdowns before halftime.

Hull and the Crimson would own the second half as the junior would run for nearly 250 yards and scored twice in the third quarter to extend the Crimson lead to 20-3. Hull would score his fourth of the game in the final quarter then senior quarterback Curtis Haugen scored from 23-yards out to seal the victory.

With the win, the Crimson will face Roseville 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at Roseville High School in the second round of the playoffs. ThThe Raiders defeated Farmington 7-0 in their opening round game.
