Maple Grove Boys Fall to Wayzata in State Soccer Semifinals

The Maple Grove boys soccer team fell to Wayzata 6-2 in the semifinals of the MSHSL Class AA state tournament on Monday, Oct. 30 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The undefeated Trojans scored a pair of first half goals (Walter Smith and Stuart Sain) to gain momentum. The Crimson’s Jack Glecker cut into the lead at the five minute mark of the second half, but the Trojans answered a minute later to regain the two goal cushion and control of the game.

Wayzata, the top seed in the tournament would find the back of the net three more times before the final horn sounded scoring on six of 15 shots taken.

With the loss, Maple Grove (16-2-2) will play for third place on 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 p.m. at US Bank Stadium following the girls game, which begins at 2 p.m.
