When the Maple Grove Senior High and Osseo Senior High Girls Basketball teams take the floor on Friday night at Osseo Senior High, it will mark the first time the two square off on the varsity floor as part of the rivalry.
“I haven’t thought about it that much,” Corona said. “Jordyn is just a great player. She’s tall and can shoot from outside and she can get in the lane. If she’s got you, she’s got you beat, you’re not getting back on her.”
While Corona picked up her first taste of the rivalry last season as an 8th grader, Lamker will play varsity for the first time against Osseo on Friday night.
“I’m so excited,” Lamker said. “I’ve always wanted to play in one of these Osseo, Maple Grove games. I’ve been watching them my whole life and that’s all I want to do is get on the floor and be the one in that special moment.”
Lamker and Corona made their way through Osseo-Maple Grove Basketball (OMGBA) and during their time in traveling basketball played on the same team. They have also played as teammates in AAU with North Tartan.
“Anna does so many things well,” Lamker said. “She’s such a great guard. She’s so smart with the ball and is physical and tough and can also shoot. She’s a hard player to guard.”
From state championships in traveling basketball as teammates to opponents on Friday, there is one thing for certain. Nothing either of them do will come as a surprise to the other.
“I’ve played with her forever, and we’d go against each other in practice and I know what she does and she knows what I do,” Corona said. “It will be interesting to see how we transfer that on the court.”
There’s one thing however, that will never change.
“We love each other so much,” Lamker said. “We’re going to go hard, but in the end, we’re going to be the same people.”
