Investigation Continues in Officer Involved Shooting in Maple Grove

On Feb. 7, police responded to a 911 hang up call and unsuccessful attempts to reach the caller from a home 9600 block of Trenton Lane, according to press releases from the Maple Grove Police Department and Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).
Maple Grove Police stated “officers were confronted with an individual in a house that had a knife. During a confrontation with the individual, one officer discharged their firearm shooting the individual.”
As of Feb. 9, the individual (identified as a 50-year-old man), remained at North Memorial Health Hospital for treatment for gunshot and self-inflected knife wounds, according to the BCA. No officers were injured during the incident.
The BCA is “investigating the incident at the request of the
Maple Grove Police Department. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office provided
assistance at the scene,” according to the BCA release. The investigation is ongoing
as of Feb. 11, 2018. Three officers "are on standard administrative leave."
