Mike Clendenin and his wife Laura saw an opportunity. Create an inexpensive option for parents to bring their children to play in when outside is not an option.

“There was just a lack of things to do in the winter,” Mike said. “Our active three-year-old is always looking for something to do.”

The idea of an indoor playground that would become
Playground Plaza was born. The search began for the perfect site and the 10 page business plan quickly expanded to 90 pages. The dream that began with a vision based on their own reality came true this week as Playground Plaza will opened its doors for the first time.

The process has brought excitement, fear, and appreciation for the Clendenin family.

“The encouragement family and friends have given to make this dream a reality,” Mike said. “It’s not a one person job.”

Playground Plaza is a 20,000 square foot indoor play paradise located at 11701 95th Avenue North in Maple Grove comes complete with two playgrounds, a jumping pad, cafeteria and party rooms that can be booked separately.

The playgrounds are age specific. One for 2-5 year olds and another for 5-12 year olds. In addition, there is a turfed area for free play.

Open 365 days a year from 7 a.m.- 9 p.m., Playground Plaza is a one-of-a-kind operation in Maple Grove as there is no staff on site. All tickets are purchased online. The facility is secured through electronic locks and all activity is monitored through real-time security feeds. All children under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their visit and they are responsible for their children at all times during their visit.

Single day passes are $10. There are also monthly passes as well as party room and field trip rates which can be found here.

For the Clenednin’s showing off their dream to their older friends and family is something they are looking forward to because the concept is so different.

“There is no one there to collect the money,” Mike said.

The biggest source of excitement however hits a little closer to home.

“Getting my daughter in there is what I’m most excited about,” Mike said.
