Students from Fernbrook Elementary participating in "The Stock Market Game"™ during the 2017-18 this school year were recently recognized for taking first place in the Elementary Division in Minnesota.

The first-place team included students Alexander Jaeck and Maddex Van Slooten, taught by Kim LeClaire.

The Stock Market Game is "a national, interactive, experiential learning program for students in grades 4-12 in classes such as math, social studies, and business education. Student teams participating in The SMG are given a virtual $100,000 to invest over a fourteen-week period, competing with other Minnesota students for the highest-valued portfolio," according to a press release.

“The Stock Market Game is unique because students are learning critical research and decision-making skills by actually participating in the stock market in real time," BestPrep Program Manager Stephanie Musgrove said. "Students see the consequences of the financial choices they make, which allows them to understand the various factors that impact the market, encouraging ongoing research and strategic decisions."

The awards ceremony took place at the end of May in Minneapolis where the Fernbrook Elementary students and other top teams were recognized.
